Glyphosate – The Hidden Poison

The world is full of beautiful things
People who care and the joys that they bring
Skies that are blue and seas deep and clear
Mountains and valleys and open frontiers
Our Food and our water are needed for health
We cannot go forward focused only on wealth
Businesses must not release all their waste
They need to be mindful, not develop in haste
We need to unite and stop the destruction
We need to take action and slow down production
We inhabit this earth for a limited time
Make sure when you leave you have not cause decline.

Glyphosate is one of the most widely used herbicides, in more than 750 products, including Monsanto’s Roundup. Monsanto, owned now by Bayer – caused the cancer of Dewayne Johnson, a school groundskeeper, who was awarded $78m. There are roughly 8,700 similar cases against Monsanto in the USA.

Glyphosate causes a form of cancer called non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, in 2015, the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer found glyphosate to be a “probable” cause of cancer in humans and declared as a probable carcinogen. Glyphosate is one of 80,000 registered commercially produced chemicals in the US; some compounds such as PFOA is linked to testicular cancer & hexavalent chromium (Chromium-6) is linked to lung cancer.

The vast majority of chemicals are never adequately tested for their effects on ecosystems or human beings. Governments don’t have the resources and Companies don’t have the incentive and the rates of chemicals acceptable by law may be far higher than what is genuinely safe. Levels of glyphosate in people have increased by over 1,300% in the past 20 years (Journal of the American Medical Association). There is evidence that glyphosate is an important driver of Florida’s toxic algae bloom and human exposure to toxic algae, regularly kills pets & wildlife & has been linked to neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and ALS.

Foods that contain high levels of Glyphosate – almonds, carrots, quinoa, soy products, vegetable oil, corn and corn oil, canola seeds used in canola oil, beets and beet sugar, sweet potatoes, cheerio’s, Quaker old fashioned oats, & other breakfast foods.
