Scientists have suggested that washing machines are a haven for bacteria; 90% of bacteria & viruses can transfer from one item of clothing to another during the wash cycle, as the germs remain in the washing machine. Germs such as – Staphylococcus, E. coli, Hepatitis A, Norovirus, Rotavirus & Salmonella. Hot water won’t prevent this & many germs can survive even hot water.
Cold wash, no bleach, 12 mins average wash cycles & 28 mins dryer cycles allow harmful bacteria, & viruses to survive the rigors of normal washing & drying and may even regrow.
Many are passed to your kitchen, by changing washed laundry to dryer, possibly passing bacteria onto your hands to your food, thereby contaminating yourself and others.
How to prevent and minimize contamination – CLEAN YOU WASHING MACHINE:
Hanging clothes outside in the sun – ultraviolet light is a natural sanitizer
Dry in dryer – high heat for over ½ hr minimum. Many germs may survive a low heat
If you play sports or gym:
– Wash immediately; the longer clothes remain damp with sweat, the more bacteria & mould will grow
– Fill a bucket with Vinegar & Eucalyptus oil, soak until ready to wash
Clean your machine:
– Once a month – run an empty cycle add 1 cup of white vinegar + 2 caps of eucalyptus oil + 4 drops of doTerra Purify oil
– Fortnightly – clean lint filter
– Weekly – wipe inside ring & outside of machine with wet cloth & eucalyptus oil
– Every wash – leave the washing machine lid open once finished to air out
Reducing the environment for germs, viruses, bacteria and fungus, equals an improved immune system and a healthier life.
